Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
Stay two steps ahead
Over the decades we’ve been committed to automotive safety. Discover how technologies in our advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) can help make our roads safer.
Traffic Jam Assist
To help you get through stop-and-go traffic easily, Traffic Jam Assist uses functions like Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist to allow comfortable driving in traffic jams. Your Volkswagen can use Adaptive Cruise Control to follow the vehicle ahead at a speed set by yourself - between 0 to 60 km/h. When activated, it can automatically operate the accelerator and brakes within its system limits to help you avoid traffic jam collisions1.
This technology builds on the familiar cruise control system by adding a radar sensor. If you’re too close to the car in front, it will warn you first with audio and visual signals, followed by a short braking jolt. If necessary, bringing your vehicle to a complete stop using the Front Assist system. Volkswagen equipped with Lane Assist, will even be able to tell if you’re accidentally drifting out of your lane and gently counter steer to bring you back into your lane1.

Front Assist with City Emergency Braking
Using a radar sensor, Front Assist can detect a possible collision with a vehicle in front. It then warns the driver and prepare the car for braking. If nothing changes, the system will apply the brakes giving you a better chance of avoiding, or minimising, a collision. When you’re travelling below 30km/h, City Emergency Brake can prepare the brakes if a collision is likely. If the driver doesn’t respond, the system will do it automatically. In the new Tiguan, an upgraded Front Assist benefits from a Pedestrian Monitoring Function which is able to detect and react when something enters your vehicle's path without warning2.
Park like a machine
Using sensors on either side of your bumpers, together with front and rear parking distance sensors, Park Assist actively helps you 90-degree park, back into a space and get in and out of a parallel park.
Park Assist can also work alongside parking sensors and a rear-view camera, providing you with audio and visual aids to help achieve the perfect park3.
