AdBlue®
The ultimate care for your Volkswagen

What is AdBlue®?

High environmental protection factor at low cost

AdBlue® is an odourless urea solution that reduces harmful nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases of diesel vehicles. All you have to do is simply top up AdBlue® after several thousand kilometres.

How does AdBlue® work

Environmental protection in the tank

The system uses a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), combined with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) which utilises the periodic injection of the AdBlue® solution. The solution is stored separately from your fuel tank and is pumped in small quantities into the exhaust when the engine is running – breaking down nitrogen oxide into water vapour and nitrogen gas.

Buying AdBlue®

  • Economical
Depending on your personal driving style and any increased engine load, your car may consume approximately 1.5L of AdBlue® every 1000km.
  • Easy To Top Up
You can refill the AdBlue® tank yourself with bottles purchased from your Volkswagen dealer or selected major service stations.

Refilling AdBlue®

  • Without AdBlue®, nothing works
If the tank is empty you can no longer start your Volkswagen until you top up your AdBlue®.
  • AdBlue® in the diesel tank?
Do not start your engine under any circumstances and contact your local Volkswagen dealer immediately.
  • Keep it clean
Do not start your engine under any circumstances and contact your local Volkswagen dealer immediately.

Refill with care

AdBlue® is a corrosive liquid, so we advise you wear protective clothing when handling. If it touches your eyes, skin or respiratory organs or is swallowed, rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical help immediately. Do not try to induce vomiting unless recommended by a doctor. If small quantities of AdBlue® come into contact with the vehicle’s paintwork wipe them off and if necessary rinse the area with water.
